fall(ing) rigg, cropton #deforestation series
icm/ layered icm photographs
2022+. Digital layered ICM images.
Examples from a series charting the regeneration of Fall Rigg, Cropton Forest, North Yorkshire. Managed by Forestry England the area has been significantly felled and pine trees used for furniture - making way for heath and more native tree species. The artist has been visiting this rigg four times a year, summer, winter, spring and autumn. This project aims, via layered ICM photography, to capture the strange mix of death and destruction and new life; the physical force and power of the remaining pines standing like mourners above the remains of their brothers and sisters. ICM also allows the artist to convey the force of movement and life and the still rootedness of the remaining trees in the earth.
